My name is Matthew Bishop, and I am partners and the onsite farrier for Hunt Ranch Arena with MaryAnn and Pete. I was born in Ramona, California, and was raised there until about the age of ten. My family then moved to Taylor, Arizona. I went through middle school in Snowflake and half-way through high school, I met MaryAnn when I had her come help me with a troubled horse I had. We became pretty close friends from there, helping each other through many different things. I began going with MaryAnn to train a few horses until eventually she asked me if I would like to be part of the wonderful facility she was trying to build. By that time, I was a  sophomore in high school and my parents talked about moving back to California because of job opportunities. Of course, at the age of 15, I had to go with my parents, when actually, my heart was still in this town. I had planned to graduate from high school a year early and get a certification as a farrier from George Good’s Tucson School of Horse Shoeing . After a year and a half of hard work and dedication, I graduated second in my class and  moved to Hunt , to MaryAnn and Pete’s home, where they open- heartedly welcomed me into their home. I have been living here for the past four months and love it!!

I have been shoeing horses for a living for about six months now. I LOVE shoeing horses!! The feeling that you get after fixing a horse’s hooves that are extremely long or miss-shapen is unexplainable!! You know the horse was in pain before you helped him/her and now because of you it can comfortably walk and be free of pain and discomfort. Because I am 17 years old, I have a lot of evergy to do the work correctly and my love for it ensures a good professional job every time!!!!

I hold a Brotherhood of Working Farriers Association Certificate

I plan to further my education to obtain the Journeyman Farrier Certificate

My knowledge includes all phases of farrier work

  • Corrective shoeing
  • Custom shoes–hot or cold
  • Mini horses to Draft horses
  • Mules
